Don’t Let The Telly Tell You What To Buy

by JJMC on January 30, 2011

We are in an era where only the best will do. Well, that’s what we are being led to believe anyway. Adverts exists to drive us to keep up with the Jones’, only in 2011, the Jones’ have an expensive motor parked up in their driveway and a 4 year old with an iPhone.

Put on your televisions right now. Go on…

Turn to some adverts there are bound to be some on one on of the hundreds of channels you have to choose from these days. What are the marketing bods trying to convince you that your need to buy today? A slimline dishwasher and personally designed kitchen perhaps? Or maybe one of several upright vacuum cleaners with an unnecessarily powerful ability to suck to a degree that can rival the suction of a black hole?

Maybe you are being informed that you yourself are not adequate enough? Maybe Cheryl Cole was actually born with “it” and Maybelline’s £8 mascara is not going to make your aesthetics any better or less ragged looking. In case three blades on your razor are not enough, you can now upgrade to a costly five blade monster thanks to Gillette.

And surprise? You life really isn’t going to be over if you do not get your hands on the latest Apple toy or car insurance deal.

Purchasing commodities is imperative in a couple of ways. Some do have the ability to make our lives easier and the drive to own goods is what keeps everybody working in employment, making our economy a comparably more stable one. But I urge people to properly think about if they need certain commodities your 40 inch television is more than fine, there’s no need to upgrade to a 50 inch version just because you are being told that that size is now an available option.

Have some personal accountability!
